Couples Therapy & Relationship Coaching

Most people want a supportive, loving relationship with a long-term partner as the foundation for a happy and fulfilling life.

Whilst there are many alternative – and equally valid – ways of living, for most, this is still the ideal. Despite it's challenges and compromises, it is the model which most of us aspire to, and when it works, it’s wonderful.

In fact, research has clearly shown a strong correlation between people’s satisfaction with their relationships and their long term health (mental and physical) and even longevity.

But, as we all know, it’s not always easy, and even the most loving and connected couples will inevitably hit obstacles in the course of their lives together. The drudgery and stresses of day-to-day life can take their toll, undermining even the strongest relationships if they are not careful to take action before long term damage is done.

Couple in Nature

Please don't wait until you are on the brink of splitting up, then try counselling as a ‘last resort’. Sometimes it’s too late by then and one or other partner has already left the relationship in their mind and energy, if not yet physically. My work with couples aims to stop relationship decline in its tracks by exploring the underlying issues and working with them to steer a different course.

This might involve reconnecting with what drew you together originally, or discovering new points of connection, maybe re-awakening buried feelings or understanding each other’s unfulfilled needs or unresolved hurts. It inevitably involves listening to and understanding each other better and finding new ways of communicating.

Prioritising each other and the quality of your relationship is key, and sometimes practical solutions are needed – finding practical workarounds for day to day aggravations can be as important as reconnecting emotionally and physically.
